The agreement comes as AWS prepares to open its first cloud region in Saudi Arabia, putting more focus on how enterprises will use the infrastructure coming into the Kingdom. 

Saudi Arabia's cloud market is approaching an important change. Amazon Web Services is preparing to open its first cloud region in the Kingdom in 2026 and ZainTECH has signed a multi-year agreement with the company to help Saudi organizations adopt its cloud and AI services. The deal covers government, financial services, energy and healthcare, as more of the infrastructure behind enterprise cloud services moves into the country. 

AWS has been building its presence in Saudi Arabia ahead of the regional launch. AWS Outposts is already available in the country, allowing customers to run AWS infrastructure in their own facilities while using AWS services. A full AWS Region is a larger addition, bringing a wider range of cloud services and infrastructure into the Kingdom. AWS has committed $5.3 billion to the Saudi Region and announced plans for it to launch in 2026. Data location is one reason the expansion matters to enterprise customers, particularly organizations in banking, healthcare and government that have requirements around where sensitive information is stored and how it is handled. A local region gives those organizations another option for keeping workloads and data inside Saudi Arabia while using AWS services, although companies will still need to review their applications, security controls and internal systems before deciding what can move. 

From infrastructure to actual workloads 

In 2022, with the two companies working on cloud migration, managed services, AWS Outposts and machine learning for enterprise customers. ZainTECH also set up a Cloud Center of Excellence as part of the agreement. Their latest deal comes as AWS moves closer to opening its Saudi region, bringing the earlier partnership into a market where local cloud infrastructure is about to become much more widely available. 

Saudi Arabia has been building out several parts of its technology infrastructure at the same time. Coverage from LEAP 2026 showed the scale of investment going into data centers, computing capacity and AI infrastructure across the Kingdom. A local AWS Region adds another piece to that buildout, while technology teams inside individual organizations will have to decide which systems should move, which need to be redesigned and which are better left where they are. Banks, hospitals, energy companies and government agencies can have years of applications and databases tied to existing infrastructure, along with security and regulatory requirements that vary by workload. Moving those systems can require changes to applications and data before they are ready for a new environment. AI adds another consideration, since putting applications into production depends on having usable data and systems that can support them reliably.

Customers now have a period in which they can assess their existing environments and prepare for the AWS Region. What gets moved, what stays in place and what new applications are built will depend on the requirements of individual organizations rather than a single approach to cloud adoption. AWS's Saudi Region is expected in 2026, giving enterprises time to work through those decisions before the infrastructure is fully operational. For IT teams, the more immediate task is deciding which workloads are ready for that next step and what needs to change before they get there.
