Etisalat UAE, in partnership with DataRobot, is deploying governed AI agents across the business while keeping the platform inside its own data center. The move signifies a strong sovereign AI shift: as systems begin taking actions, control over infrastructure permissions may matter as much as control over data.

As organizations adopt agentic AI systems across their businesses, the question is who controls the infrastructure those agents run on, what information they can access, and how their decisions are governed.
Etisalat UAE is addressing those questions through its own data center. By extending its partnership with DataRobot, Etisalat has signed a multiyear agreement to develop, deploy, and govern an agentic AI workforce across business units. Under the agreement, capabilities from the DataRobot Agent Workforce Platform will be hosted within Etisalat UAE’s infrastructure as part of its broader sovereign AI environment. DataRobot
This is an attempt to bring agentic AI into real operational workflows without giving up control of the environment in which those agents operate.
Sovereignty Is Moving from Data to Action
Previously, sovereign AI was focused on data residency. Businesses and governments wanted to know where information was stored, who had access, and whether workloads were processed outside their jurisdiction. Agentic AI raises a more complicated version of the same problem.
An AI agent is no longer just used to retrieve information; it works within internal systems, performs multi-step tasks, triggers workflows, and operates within predetermined limits. Therefore, organizations need control over what the agent can do.
By hosting DataRobot’s platform inside its own data center, Etisalat UAE retains direct oversight of the infrastructure, data access and governance surrounding selected agentic workloads. Antonietta Mastroianni, Chief Information Officer, Etisalat UAE, said: “Etisalat UAE’s partnership with DataRobot has strengthened the governance of our growing Machine Learning portfolio while significantly increasing our agility, enabling our teams to develop and deliver models faster and empowering data scientists and business users through our Citizen Data Scientist Program. We are now building on this foundation to embrace agentic AI, accelerating innovation while maintaining the trust and governance required at enterprise scale.”
Etisalat UAE and DataRobot have worked together to scale AI from early predictive applications across customer value management, including churn prevention, upsell and cross-sell targeting, and credit risk optimization, towards broader enterprise adoption. The partnership also helped establish the governance and internal expertise required to operate machine-learning systems at enterprise scale.
Etisalat UAE is embedding AI expertise directly within its business units rather than keeping all development inside a central data-science team. Departmental AI champions and a governed enterprise sandbox will allow employees closer to individual customer, commercial and operational problems to prototype and develop use cases. Konsulteer

Haissam Hassan, META GM at DataRobot, said: “Etisalat UAE is showing what enterprise AI looks like when innovation, sovereignty and governance are designed together. They have already built the foundation and are now applying that same discipline to AI agents. The opportunity is no longer simply to build agents, but to put them safely into real business processes at scale.”
Etisalat and DataRobot’s extended partnership highlights a major shift toward sovereign architecture. As businesses race to adopt agentic AI systems, governance risk is inseparable from performance. This partnership could offer a model for how large enterprises adopt agentic AI without surrendering control of the infrastructure, data, and decisions that matter most.
