As applications become more dependent on cloud infrastructure, Commvault is expanding its Azure recovery capabilities to address what happens after an attack or outage.

When a cloud application goes down after a cyberattack or outage, restoring its data may be only the first step. The infrastructure and configurations supporting that application can also have to be recovered before the business can resume normal operations.
Commvault announced an expansion of Cloud Rewind in Dubai on August 19, extending the platform's Microsoft Azure resource coverage for configuration protection and recovery. The company says the expanded coverage will increase threefold to 62% of enterprise relevant Azure resource types, with the additional protection targeted for availability in the coming months.
The announcement comes as UAE organizations continue to face a high volume of cyber threats. The UAE Cyber Security Council has reported more than 800,000 cyberattacks per day in recent months, although figures have varied during 2026. In February, the Council reported between 90,000 and 200,000 breach attempts each day, while a later report cited more than 800,000 attacks. For organizations running critical workloads in the cloud, the speed and completeness of recovery can become an operational issue when an attack takes systems offline.
Azure Environments Are Harder to Rebuild
The updated Cloud Rewind is designed to identify the cloud resources supporting an application, map how those resources depend on one another and then coordinate their recovery alongside the application itself, according to Commvault. The product also supports application recovery simulations in isolated, air gapped environments, allowing organizations to test whether applications can be restored without exposing the recovery environment to the same incident affecting production systems.
"Across the UAE, organizations are no longer asking whether they will face an attack, but how quickly they can recover when one lands," said Fady Richmany, Corporate Vice President and General Manager, Emerging Markets at Commvault. "Modern applications are only as resilient as the cloud infrastructure beneath them. By expanding Cloud Rewind's Azure coverage, we are giving regional organizations a faster, more complete path back to full operations where the environment of their business runs on. It's a capability that directly supports the national resilience agenda we are advancing alongside the UAE Cyber Security Council through our Innovation Center of Excellence in Abu Dhabi."
The product update also brings cloud configuration into Commvault's existing backup and recovery workflows. Protection Groups combine application data and cloud configuration in the same recovery process, while policy-based protection can automatically enroll discovered resources according to tags, regions and resource types. The approach is intended to reduce the need for teams to manually add individual resources as cloud environments change.
There is a practical reason vendors are putting more emphasis on this part of recovery. Commvault cites Absolute Security's 2026 State of Enterprise Cyber Resilience report, which found that 57% of enterprises said recovery from a cyberattack took more than 4.5 days on average. A longer recovery period can translate directly into business disruption, particularly when the affected application supports core operations.
The problem also extends beyond a single cloud provider. Applications increasingly depend on combinations of services and configurations that can change over time, making it harder to rely on recovery documentation that was created months earlier.
"Many organizations discover their recovery plan is incomplete only after an incident has occurred," said Melinda Marks, Senior Research Director and Chief Analyst, Omdia. "As applications and their associated cloud resources become more complex, organizations need an effective way to rapidly recover, with restoration capabilities across configurations, dependencies, and multiple cloud platforms."
The expanded Azure protection is targeted for availability in the coming months. For organizations running critical workloads in Azure, the update adds more of the infrastructure and configuration layer to the recovery process, an area that can otherwise require additional work after an incident.
